Am 27. und 28. Dezember 2011 fand in Erfurt ein Projektmeeting mit Partnern aus der Ukraine vom Lemberger Flughafen und der Lemberger Gebietsregierung statt.

Großes CHAMPIONS Meeting in Wroclaw

Vom 16. bis 18. November fand ein großes Projektmeeting von CHAMPIONS in Wroclaw statt. Das dreitägige Ereignis begann mit einem Besuch des neuen Terminals auf dem Wroclawer Flughafen. Der Geschäftsführer des Flughafens führte die Teilnehmer durch das fast fertige Gebäude. Am zweiten Tag erstatteten die Projektpartner Bericht über den Projektfortschritt entsprechend ihrer Arbeitspakete. Am dritten Tag gaben der Leadpartner sowie die verantwortlichen Partner für Kommunikation (EPC) und Projektkoordination (UNICONSULT) weitere Berichte zu Aspekten des Managemnts der Finanzen und der Kommunikation/Dissemination. Am 01.11.2011 wurde im Konferenzsaal der Erfurter IHK ein regionaler Informationstag abgehalten. Zu diesem Meeting wurden das Regionale Innovations Lab und eine Regionale Beratergruppe in Thüringen gegründet.

Improving of Key Supporting Services for Young Innovators across Central Europe

Project InoPlaCe is targetting the young innovators as one of the key driven forces of development, bringing to regions high innovations potential. The project will improve their framework conditions by the following general objectives:
]]> 1. Develop transnational action plan for development and improvment of Key Services for Young Innovators.

2. Improve the access of Young Innovators to existing services which are supporting the innovations.

3. Develop and improve at least one service in each partner's region with realization of Pilot Actions.

The specific aims:

1. Strong involvement of end beneficiaries - Young Innovators.

2. Cooperation agreements, securing the sustainability of the project.

3. Development of transferable results of other regions trough the Good Practice Compendium.

4. Dissemination of project result to Young Innovators in the regions.

Zu den Aufgaben und Zielen des Europa Programm Centers (EPC) in Thüringen

Das Europa Programm Center im Freistaat Thüringen bietet Information und technische Hilfe mit den Zielen einer verstärkten Beteiligung Thüringens an EU-Programmausschreibungen sowie Beiträge zu einer intensivierten Vernetzung zwischen Hochschulen und Thüringer KMUs sowie Einrichtungen aus Partnerregionen. Außerdem führt das EPC die Veranstaltungsreihe „Hochschulstandorte Thüringens stellen sich vor" durch. Die Europäische Akademie der Regionen unterstützt die Planung und Durchführung von Fachaufenthalten in Thüringen und seinen Partnerregionen und organisiert nationale und internationale Fachtreffen im Rahmen der EAR. Sie führt die Veranstaltungsreihe „Fachseminare der EAR" durch.

Mit der feierlichen Eröffnung und Wiederbelebung der historischen Alten Wache wurde eine zentrale Anlaufstelle für die Kooperation von Thüringen mit seinen Partnerregionen eingerichtet. Hier sind zwei Einrichtungen untergebracht, die sich dem Gedanken der transregionalen Zusammenarbeit in Europa verschrieben haben, das Europa Programm Center, das vom Thüringer Institut für Akademische Weiterbildung (TIAW) in Trägerschaft geführt wird und zum Anderen die Europäische Akademie der Regionen (EAR), ein Projekt der Hertie-Stiftung.

Cities and Regions for cycling

The still increasing private motorisation results in unsustainable traffic congestion and air pollution in the cities and regions of Central Europe. By designing and implementing trans-national, cross-border and national strategies the EU-Project BICY aims to achieve a widespread modal shift towards cycling and walking to improve the quality of life and reduce pollution.

]]> Considering that around 80% of all urban trips have a distance of less than 5 kilometres it becomes evident that an increased use of bicycles would bring about an enormous reduction of problems associated with congestion, pollution and the emission of CO2. As a consequence of this many positive effects could be achieved. From improved health, time savings to combating climate change. In other words, cycling mobility (together with walking and in combination with public transport) should be promoted as the most sustainable, ecological and, under certain conditions, healthiest and safest way of mobility. The BICY project partnership includes those that are forerunners with regard to bicycle mobility. In Ferrara, Italy, for example more than 30% of all urban trips are done by bike and in Graz, Austria, the numbers are: 20% bike trips in the city centre and 16% in total. These two partners intend to further consolidate and increase their performance and, at the same time to transfer their experiences to late runners and areas that have just started to improve bicycle mobility. Late runners will lay down the conceptual and operational basis to first set up an adequate bike infrastructure and design comprehensive mobility plans that centre on cycling. More advanced areas and front runners will improve their existing cycling system, work out a possible integration with other soft means of mobility and try out new innovative technologies in the field of cycle mobility.

In particular BICY will:

Develop a coherent and integrated urban-regional bike planning, as a strategic component of the entire urban-territorial planning;
Promote cycling as a key component of public transport;
Raise awareness of local decision makers and citizens about the bicycle as an equivalent means of urban transportation and a valid replacement of the car for shorter trips
Promote the bicycle as a modern, ecological and safer means of transportation - especially in the NMS where cycling is often associated with poverty
Strengthen the frontrunners experience, also with new and innovative technologies - and, at the same time - enable policy makers and relevant stakeholders of lagging behind areas to learn from the first;
Generate, share and exchange reproducible new ideas, appraches and experiences;
Provide quantitative evidence through consolidated indicators, that a widespread modal shift toward cycling and walking does indeed improve the quality of (urban) life;
Promote a trans-national cross-fertilisation between similar projects and partnerships working in the same field;
Implement concrete actions, conceived at trans-national level that are then customized locally and thus able to achieve tangible outputs related to new mobility strategies.

Improvement of CE region's accessibility through air transport connectivity

Accessibility is an essential factor for improving competiveness and a necessary precondition for growth and an economic development. Free movement of people, goods and information increases efficiency and improves the development prospects for the regions. However, compared to Western Europe the majority of Central Europe suffers from significant accessibility deficits.

]]> The idea for the CHAMPIONS project was born about in 2008 due to the decision to have the UEFA Football Championship 2012 organised in the Ukraine and in Poland. This decision put a focus on the weak accessibility of many airport regions in the Central Europe Programme area by means of air transport. CHAMPIONS' aim is to strengthen the cohesion of regions in Central Europe through a better accessibility by air transport on the one hand and innovative and sustainable solutions for public transport on the other hand. Missing interconnectivity between air and public transport can be a reason for the lack of accessibility of regions or cities and a low share of sustainable public transport.

12 participating regions, airports and institutes from 6 countries, including the Ukraine, which face similar challenges in terms of accessibility, interconnectivity and public transport services, have therefore joined to find accessibility solutions to foster business and tourism activities in their regions.
